
MYANMAR-THAILAND BORDER – Myanmar war refugees fleeting and staying many years at the Mae La refugee camp in Tarsongyang Town, Tak Province, Thailand, demanded their rights on June 20, World Refugee Day.
Thousands of ethnic refugees fleeing Myanmar gathered at a football stadium in Mae La on Monday (June 20) morning and held signs, calling for their right to travel outside the camp and other rights.
Sports competitions including football matches and women’s competitions were held as a mark of World Refugee Day, and prizes were awarded to the winners.
The successive junta forces used the cut-off supplies strategies; burning down the villages, torturing and killing the civilians, and raping women in Myanmar. So, refugees have been fleeing to the Myanmar-Thailand border for decades.
Thailand has about eight temporary refugee camps, the largest being Mae La camp, where tens of thousands of Myanmar refugees are staying.
