KAREN STATE – The Karen National Union (KNU) announced that 12 people, including a police chief from junta forces, were killed in a battle that took place on 15th August in Kawkareik, Karen State.
Moreover, they have captured one Law officer and an office worker alive, with 6 weapons.
During the battle, the junta’s forces fired at least 50 rounds of heavy weapons at the villages, and one civilian was seriously injured.
At present, Myanmar people are holding a public defense against the junta military group’s violent oppression, arrests, attacks, and killings of civilians by the right to defend their lives nationwide. The battles between the local people’s defense forces, EAO and the military junta troops are getting intense.
The National Unity Government (NUG) claims that 90 percent of the funds raised during the Spring Revolution have been spent on defense, but on the ground, the local people’s defense forces can only use light weapons, basic rifles, and improvised explosive devices to fight the heavily armed junta’s forces and there are more requirements.
However, the NUG government said at a press conference on 21st June that the PDFs have been able to control 90 percent of the upper Myanmar roads in Sagaing Division and Magwe Division, which are the worst victims of the military junta’s violence, and the villages that are currently being terrorised are buffer areas that both the military junta forces and the PDFs cannot control yet.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) announced that the number of people who have fled their homes due to conflicts and fighting in Myanmar has reached more than 1.2 million, including women and children, and last July is the highest number of internally displaced persons that recorded.
This includes 866,000 internally displaced persons due to the conflicts and insecurity that occurred after the 2021 coup and 346,000 internally displaced persons due to conflicts before that.
