MYANMAR – The Ethnic Revolutionary Organisations and State/Ethnic Representative Councils published a statement dated September 19, after repeated preparations and coordinations, on the building of the future federal democratic union.
The statement was jointly published by the Karen National Union (KNU), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Chin National Front (CNF), Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC), Pa’O National Federal Council (PNFC), New Mon State Party-Anti Dictatorship (NMSP-AD), Mon State Federal Council (MSFC), Ta’ang Political Consultative Council (TPCC) and Women League Burma (WLB).
The organisations stated that in building the federal democratic union, the S/ERC and ERO will work together starting from the revolution period/ interim period, using the bottom-up federalism approach.
In addition, it is said that the bottom-up federalism approach will be built on three items namely: the origin of the constitutional power belongs to the state/federal unit and its inhabitants; states/federal units are based on equality and self determination; and authority and share of power will be based on the basic principles of constitution, unity and the ratio of the population to power.
