MYANMAR- The price of fuel has suddenly increased by more than 340 kyats per litre on December 1.As a result, according to a consumer, they had to pay up to 2510 kyats per litre of octane 92.
“The gasoline price spike up so suddenly this morning. The raise is up to 340kyats per litre in a single day,” said a person who filled the gas.
This price jump occurred after the military council advised industrial zone operators to import fuel on their own starting December 5, reported an owner of gasoline station.
The military council used to sell motor oil for industrial activities, but now would only grant import licenses and the businessmen are forced to buy and import motor fuel on their plans.
“They (Military Council) are having difficulties to buy fuel. Therefore, they are saying like they would no longer take responsibilities (on domestic fuel imports) and forced us to take the fall,” stated a businessman.
A businessman said that it would be inconvenient if he had to import products himself when the war council controlled export revenue dollars.
This morning (on December 1), a litre of 92 Octane rose to 2,510 kyats and that of octane 95 rose to 2,640 kyats. On November 30, sale price was 2,170 kyats for a litre of octane 92 and 2,300 kyats for one that of octane 95.
The owners of gas station and military council have not yet to announce anything about the sudden rise in fuel prices.
