KACHIN STATE – Locals reported that the residents of entire Hpakant Town have fled from their lands due to the due to the military tension and ongoing fights between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) led Revolutionary Forces and junta army in Hpakant, and the town was deserted.
Since the beginning of September, the fighting had been going on between KIA led Revolutionary Forces and the terrorist junta army in Hpakant Township, and the military situation was intense in Hpakant Town. The fascist junta army launched artillery attacks, and there were civilians’ casualties. For that reason, the residents of Hpakant had started to evacuate and the shops were also closed. On September 21, almost all of the residents of Hpakant had fled away and the whole town was quiet.
“People started running away yesterday (September 20). Today, the whole town is quiet. There are no people left. It is deserted. The fighting is still going on in Hseng Taung. There are no people in Hpakant Town,” said a resident.
The terrorist junta’s fighter jets were hovering around Hpakant Town and monitoring the situation. Some of the local people who remained in the town said that a large-scale battle could soon break out in Hpakant.
“I can’t hear anything from the side of Hpakant police station either. It’s very quiet,” the local explained.
