TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Nway Oo Alinyaung, a people centered interim school for IDP children in Tanintharyi Township, is in need of support, according to the Township Education Board.
The school had to switch locations since around a month ago due to conflicts in the region and the students as well as the teachers are unable to return to the village, shared an interim education staff.
The school is lacking in items such as KG teaching aids, coloured papers, teacher’s guide books, art teaching aids, ink and markers, and the students and teachers also need assistance with their living expenses.
“We tried to bring as much materials as we could when we switched locations. But there are still many lacking areas,” said an interim education staff.
Nway Oo Alinyaung Interim School is said to be teaching over 300 students, ranging from KG to Grade 12.
“We heard that (junta) soldiers invaded the village so we did not enter the village. We just settled in another place. We are still unable to safely return to the village,” said the headmaster of an interim on ground school.
There are around 40 interim schools, recognised by the NUG in liberated areas of Tanintharyi Township, teaching around 7,000 students, according to the Township Education Board.
Nearly all of the schools in Tanintharyi Township were affected by the flooding in August and it is said that the schools have to be closed currently due to junta airstrikes.
