SAGAING DIVISION – The children at several IDP villages in Myaung Township are reported to have contracted flu and cholera.
The responsible person of Myaung Youth Network (YFC) reported that the children at the IDP villages caught the seasonal flu due to the change in weather and diarrhea due to cholera in early November.
“The children have contracted flu due to the season changes and also cholera due to lack of healthcare knowledge,” said the above responsible person.
Myaung Youth Network (YFC) informed that a considerably large number of children have contracted the disease but did not mention the exact number.
It is said that medicines are needed to properly treat the children.
The National Unity Government (NUG) Ministry of Health has shared that cholera is a serious disease caused by consuming unclean food or water where the patient suffers from sudden watery bowel movements and, in serious cases, could die within hours if it’s not treated.
“Places where the flood receded, leaving puddles, would see a higher number of mosquitoes. Although it is not like that in all places, the affected places see more cases of sick patients,” said Mr. Nway Oo (Myaung) from Myaung-based CDSOM.
