BAGO DIVISION – Ko Theik Tun Oo, a member of the leading committee of the Political Prisoners Network-Myanmar (PPNM), said that a political prisoner was accused that it was found with a illegal paper used for rolling cigarettes, and prison staff beat and torturing a political prisoner by stomping on his head and face with shoes in Bago province’s Daik-U prison.
The staff who beat him unlawfully were the warden of No. 5 Dormitory, Ye Htut Win and Deputy Sergeant Saw Aung Ko Lay, have committed beatings against a political prisoner who was unjustly sentenced to three years in prison under Section 505.
“Dormitory officer Ye Htut Win used his authority unfairly and inhumanely to beat a political prisoner. When repressing a political prisoner, the staff of Daik-U Prison became notorious for oppressing and beating them very badly. He also said that civil society organizations and resistance organizations must monitor these oppressive people and prisons without forgetting,” said Ko Theik Tun Oo, a member of the leading committee of the Political Prisoners Network-Myanmar (PPNM).
In beating the political prisoner, the chief of the dormitory, Ye Htut Win, took the lead. In addition to being kicked in the face and back of the head with jungle boots, the political prisoner was severely beaten, PPNM reported.
The Political Prisoners Network-Myanmar (PPNM) announced that the warden of Dormitory 5, who the political prisoners were beaten and tortured, and the prison staff who participated in the beatings have been properly kept along with the records of the process so that justice can be done during the transition period.
