MYANMAR – The junta council abducted and conscripted nearly 200 young people in Yamaethin Township of Mandalay Division and Taunggyi Township of Shan State, according to the residents.
During the first three weeks of November, around 50 young people were forcibly conscripted after being drafted or abducted by junta forces and village administration teams in Kamma Village Tract and Paukai Village Tract of Yamaethin Township.
“It is happening all over Yamaethin. Young people are either drafted or abducted in the streets then conscripted. They also collected 20,000 Kyats per household using the conscription law. In the entire Yamaethin Township, around 50 young people were conscripted after being abducted outside. If we add in those who were drafted or forcibly conscripted, the number should be around 100. The young people were conscripted,” said a member of a volunteer social assistance group in Yamaethin.
Similarly, the junta council has forcibly conscripted around 150 young people in Taunggyi Township of southern Shan State, reported the residents.
It is said that the junta forces would start abducting young people in Taunggyi Township after 7 p.m. and a total of 156 young people from Sao San Tun Ward, Nyaungphyu Sakam Ward, Yadanar Thiri Ward, Chanmya Ward, Shwetaung Ward, Seinpan Ward, Kanthar Ward, Kyaunggyisu Ward, Mingalar Oo Ward and Hpayarphyu Ward were reportedly abducted. The abducted people include drug addicts, ordinary employees, the sons of government employees and sons from rich households.
The terrorist junta council has demanded 200 young people from Taunggyi for the current seventh batch of military conscription and it is said that those abducted and conscripted will be sent to the training school in Kengtung then deployed to Lashio via Mong Yel after training.
