KACHIN STATE – Fighting is fierce between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the junta council in Momauk Township, informed the KIA information department.
The August 12 report from the KIA regarding the situation in Momauk revealed that the junta air force has been bombing the town almost every day, forcing the residents to flee to safety.
It was also reported that the junta air force attacked several villages in Momauk Region on August 11 night and that it is still being investigated if there were any civilian casualties.
The KIA information department stated that the junta council is using excessive airstrikes as the fighting is fierce and the military tension is high and that the residents of Momauk had to flee to Inkhaungpa, Lweljel, Manweingyi, Konelaw and Dotphoneyan Regions.
KIA is conducting an offensive to capture junta light infantry battalion 437 base, the last remaining junta base in Momauk and the battles have been ongoing for days.
Military sources shared that KIA has been involved in operations across Kachin State as well as in Mandalay Division.
KIA and Kachin People’s Defence Force (KPDF) took part in the military operations in Thabeikkyin Township and were also part of the August 12 battle that saw the revolutionary forces capture Tagaung Town in Thabeikkyin Township.
KIA joint forces have also previously captured junta outposts in Thabeikkyin Township.
Colonel Naw Bu, the information officer of KIA, was contacted to inquire about the current military situation of KIA but has yet to give a reply.
