MYANMAR – After the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) captured the junta council’s Northeast Command in Lashio City, its commander, Brigadier General Soe Hlaing, is rumoured to have fled from Muse.
After Major General Soe Tint, the previous commander for the Northeast Command was retired in mid July, Brigadier General Soe Hlaing, then commander of Infantry Division 99, was made to succeed him. However, barely a month into his new position, revolutionary forces captured the Northeast Command and he also subsequently fled from Muse, according to military sources.
“When Brigadier General Soe Hlaing became the new commander of the Northeast Command, he didn’t move to Lashio but stayed in Muse. He hasn’t been the commander for even one month. The former commander Major General Soe Tint remained in Lashio. Now that the Northeast Command fell, the new commander Brigadier General Soe Hlaing is also said to have fled from Muse. It is said that he can’t be reached anymore,” said a military source.
On the other hand, Lieutenant General Naing Naing Oo from No. 2 Special Military Operations Force, in charge of the operation at Northeast Command was also replaced with Police Lieutenant General Ni Lin Aung.
