MANDALAY DIVISION – The junta council is recruiting men between 35 and 60 to form a civilian security team to protect Pyin Oo Lwin and are said to be gathering ten men per ward.
Residents reported that the junta council is recruiting men between 35 and 60 years old to join the civilian security team (aka) Pyu Saw Htee force, gathering ten per ward with promises of uniforms, monthly pay and rations.
“A special occurrence in Pyin Oo Lwin now is that men between 35 and 60 are being recruited to form a mandatory civilian militia, saying that uniforms, handcuffs and weapons will be issued. For each ward, around ten people per ward had to join,” said a resident.
Currently, junta soldiers are no longer busily spread out in Pyin Oo Lwin, instead only searching the places that are reported to them but household guests are still regularly checked.
In addition to recruiting civilian militants, the junta council has also sent in reinforcement of forest recruits to defend Pyin Oo Lwin and is currently desperately defending its artillery battalions at Taungkham Village at the border of Pyin Oo Lwin and Nawnghkio.
