SAGAING DIVISION – Local people reported that the junta council sentenced Mr. Win Khaing, the secretary for Salingyi Township NLD Party, to 13 years in prison under terrorism charges.
Mr. Win Khaing was sentenced under articles 49, 52(a) and 50(j) of the Anti-terrorism Act to a total of 13 years in prison on November 13 and his house and compound was also seized by the junta council. Mr. Win Khaing was arrested on February 1, 2022 but only sentenced after almost three years, said 5/SaLaKa People’s Strike Network.
Mr. Win Khaing is reported to be suffering from poor health inside Monywa Prison. He has suffered nerve damage after being subjected to torture at the hands of junta forces during interrogation and his family is also said to be in trouble.
“He has a wife, two sons and a daughter. The family is in terror and depending on support from friends and monasteries. They have trouble sending care packages as well,” said 5/SaLaKa People’s Strike Network.
The terrorist junta council has added even more reinforcements in Salingyi Township and a large number of junta forces are stationed in Salingyi Town and at the Chinese copper mining project sites.
