SAGAING DIVISION – Junta war ships have docked at Thaphankai harbour in Katha Township and junta soldiers are buried at Katha Cemetery, according to residents.
Five ships carrying junta soldiers entered Katha Township on September 2 morning, and it is said that the dead bodies of junta soldiers were carried off to the cemetery in cars after the ships entered the dock.
“The bodies were carried away in two cars from the monastery, covered up in tarpaulin. We don’t know the exact number but there are said to be quite a lot. Those are junta soldiers killed while on board the ships. They were buried in Katha Cemetery,” said a resident of Katha.
Those five junta warships were continuously under attack by revolutionary forces since they departed from Tigyaing all the way to Katha. Three of the five ships were attacked and one ship was destroyed after catching on fire, killing many junta soldiers on board.
Those warships left Mandalay on August 28 and sailed up the Ayeyarwaddy River. Over 170 junta forces disembarked at Panwah Harbour in Tigyaing on September 1, entered Thaphankai Village harbour on September 2, and unloaded arsenal into cars.
Moreover, the warships fired heavy weapons into the nearby villages when approaching Thaphankai harbour, killing two civilians from Natyetwin Village and destroying several houses and motorboats in Kanni Village and Kalon Village.
“The civilians killed by the heavy weapons fired by the ships number two, both from Natyetwin (Village). The shell landed directly on the house,” confirmed a resident of Katha.
Those ships are still docked at Thaphankai harbour and are not yet known where they will be heading next.
