KARENNI STATE – Brigadier General Aung Myat, the Commander-in-Chief of the Karenni Army/ Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KA/KNDF) said that the national unity of the Karenni people is at its peak and that they are working to achieve self determination and will go to battle alongside the other ethnic people in his speech for the 76th Karenni Armed Forces Day that falls on August 17.
“We have demanded democracy, equal rights and self determination for over 70 years within the political frame but failed to achieve it. Now, the national unity of the Karenni people is at its peak and so we shall work for self determination and battle alongside the other ethnic people,” said the Commander-in-Chief.
He added that August 17, 2024 marks the 76th anniversary of the Karenni Army and explained that the army does not represent an ethnic group or a nationality but a country.
He also reminded that the Karenni Army must stand with the people during the people’s revolution and must trust the people.
The Karenni Army was first formed on August 17, 1948 with seven soldiers and began with four battalions based in four regions.
