KACHIN STATE – Kachin Independence Army (KIA)-led Revolutionary Forces carried out simultaneous attacks on the junta’s La Mawng and Taw Hmaw in Hpakant Township, and captured La Mawng base, on the morning of August 15.
The La Mawng base was reportedly occupied, at 9:30 a.m., on August 15. The allied forces of KIA and the People’s Defense Force carried out offensive attacks on junta bases in Taw Hmaw and La Mawng Kone, starting at 2:30 a.m., on August 14. The junta army launched airstrike attacks near La Mawng base, where the fighting was going on, at 10:00 a.m., on August 14.
“Revolutionary Forces captured La Mawng base. They are continuing to fight at Taw Hmaw base. The information about the casualties of junta dogs (military soldiers) and the weapons seized are not yet known,” said a KIA source.
At present, the locals around the battleground, La Mawng and Taw Hmaw bases, have been forced to flee. La Mawng base is one of the bases located at the highland, and around 50 junta forces were stationed there. If the Revolutionary Forces acquired La Mawng base, they would gain a greater advantage on territorial dominance. The KIA has the most territorial control in Hpakant Town, and the junta army is able to control some of their bases, such as Kan See, Aung Bar Lay, Hseng Taung and Hpakant Byuhar Kone (strategic outpost), according to a KIA news source.
