KACHIN STATE – The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) led revolutionary forces are simultaneously attacking the junta council’s Lamaung and Tawmhaw camps in Hpakant Township and the junta council is defending using its air force, reported a KIA military news source.
Starting around 2:30 a.m. on August 14, KIA and PDF (People’s Defence Force) joint forces attacked the junta camps at Tawmhaw and Lamaung Hill and the junta air force carried out an airstrike near Lamaung camp at around 10 a.m.
“Out of the two junta camps that are now under attack by KIA and PDF, Lamaung camp is located on the highest vantage point in Hpakant. It is of great importance strategically. There are around 50 junta dogs (junta forces) there. Once it is captured, the junta council would have lost its highest vantage point. The fighting is really fierce right now,” said the KIA source.
It is also said that residents from the villages near Lamaung and Tawmhaw camps are fleeing and that KIA now has control of the majority of the territory in Hpakant Township with the junta council only controlling several military outposts such as Kansie, Aungbarlay, Saitaung and Hpakant Strategic Hill.
