KAREN STATE – Colonel Saw Klel Doh, the spokesperson of Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 5 confirmed that Brigade 5 and allied forces captured the junta council’s Mahtaw Camp located around ten miles to the south of Hpapun.
“We can confirm that the revolutionary forces have captured Mahtaw Camp. There are no enemy (junta) forces in the camp now,” Colonel Saw Klel Doh said on November 22 evening.
KNU captured Mahtaw Camp after capturing the nearby Kuuseik Camp in Hpapun that was stationed for decades by junta forces.
As the junta forces at Kuuseik Camp fled to Mahtaw Camp, the revolutionary forces had to battle against around 80 junta forces when attacking the latter, KNU explained.
Mahtaw Camp is located on the Hpapun-Kataiti-Kamamaung Road and around ten miles from Hpapun.
The junta council still has Taungtonelone Camp, Kataiti Camp, Kanyindon Camp, Border Guard Battalion 1013, Battalion 1014 and Kamamaung Tactical Base on the Hpapun-Kataiti-Kamamaung Road.
In addition, the junta tactical base outside Hpapun is also still standing but it is under siege by KNU and allied forces, according to Colonel Saw Klel Doh.
