SAGAING DIVISION – Masked gunmen raided and attacked the monastery at Ohnaepaung Village near Ye U and the head abbot, Ven. Eaindaka Siri, was killed, and the revolutionary forces are investigating the case, reported Mr. Htoo Khant Zaw (Amaethar), the information officer of Ye U based People’s Defence Comrade.
The attack took place on October 31st night, and it is said that the gunmen made the novices and the helper at the lower floor to lie down on their stomachs before going up the monastery and shooting the head abbot from a close range.
Regarding the case, revolutionary forces are said to be cooperating and conducting inspections to capture the perpetrators as soon as possible.
“We are assuming that it was a personal grudge against the monk that is unrelated to politics. The head abbot was an outstanding monk, respected by the entire village. He didn’t involve himself in politics but only focused on the religious works. Although we managed to deliver him to the clinic, he lost his life on the way as there were too many bullet wounds. The gunmen also burst the tyres of the two cars in the monastery premises so no one can follow them. They also shot and killed a pet dog raised by the monk,” said Mr. Htoo Khant Zaw (Amaethar).
Ohnaepaung Village is located in the northern part of Ye U Township, between Ye U Town and Aungthayar Village, a base of junta subordinate Pyu Saw Htee militia, around five miles from both.
Ven. Eaindaka Siri was 43 years old and ordained for 23 years and was highly respected by the people of Ohnaepaung Village.
