YANGON DIVISION – Kyaw Thu Win (aka) Shwe Mann, a member of the junta council’s administration council for western Hlaingtharyar Township and his personal assistant were attacked by resistance forces on October 13 morning and both ended up with life threatening injuries, reported an official from Golden Valley Warriors team.
It is said that members of Golden Valley Warriors attacked the two in Ward No. 11 of Hlaingtharyar Township around 9 a.m. on October 13. Kyaw Thu Win was reportedly shot two times in the chest and once in his left hand while his PA was shot twice in the head and both were sent to the hospital.
“Kyaw Thu Win and his PA were shot and delivered to the hospital. We can only confirm that. We don’t know if they died or not,” said the official from Golden Valley Warriors.
Kyaw Thu Win was also a resident of Hlaingtharyar Township and was said to have submitted the details of over 800 young people to the junta council, leading to their forced conscription. Hlaingtharyar Township currently stands as the township with the highest number of conscripts for the junta council and the decision for the conscription came from the township administration council which Kyaw Thu Win was a part of.
In addition, Kyaw Thu Win was also reported to have expanded his businesses in just one year after he joined the township administration council and his businesses ranging from drinking water and convenience stores to retail are rumoured to be involved with junta officers and a Chinese businessman.
He had used force to remove squatters in Hlaingtharyar Township and forcibly conscripted young factory workers under the military conscription law, becoming notorious in the township. It is said that the resistance forces targeted him after receiving multiple reports from the people.
Golden Valley Warriors stated that its members who carried out the mission to target Kyaw Thu Win and his PA have reached safety and added that they have compiled the data of township administration council members and businesses that have dealings with the junta council and will continue to target them.
On the other hand, the junta council is said to have cordoned off the entire Hlaingtharyar Township and conducted searches following the shooting in Ward No. 11, even blocking off Bayintnaung Bridge, Aungzeya Bridge and Shwepyitha Bridge.
