MYANMAR – According to the announcement by the junta military council on August 30, they will increase private household and business electricity bills by 2 to 3 times starting from September 1 since the cost of electricity production has been increasing year by year, according to the military council.
The increased rates for the household use are 50 kyats per unit up to 50 units, 100 kyats from 51 units to 100 units, 150 kyats from 101 units to 200 units, 300 kyats for 201 units and above.
In addition, the increased electricity fees for industrial use is 250 kyats from 1 unit to 5,000 units, 400 kyats from 5,001 units to 20,000 units and 500 kyats for 20,001 units and above.
Previously charged electricity rates were 35 kyats from 1 unit to 50 units, 50 kyats from 31 units to 50 units, 70 kyats from 51 units to 75 units, 90 kyats from 76 units to 100 units, 110 Kyats from 101 units to 150 units, 120 kyats from 151 units to 200 units and 201 units and above were charged at 125 kyats.
Previously, industrial electricity rates were a minimum of 125 kyats from 1 unit to 500 units, to a maximum of 180 kyats per unit for 10,000 units and more.
As a result, household electricity prices have increased almost twice, and industrial electricity prices have increased almost thrice.
