SHAN STATE – The allied revolutionary forces led by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) completely captured the junta council’s Northeast Command based in Lashio, northern Shan State on August 3 and it became the first regional command of the junta council to be wiped out.
“From what we know, yesterday (August 2) some junta soldiers surrendered. There could also be some that ran away from the Northeast Command via open routes. The Northeast Command is large. Actually the allied forces have surrounded and closed off the Northeast Command. The responsible officials will publish the news about the actual capture of the Northeast Command,” said a MNDAA frontline source.
In addition, CDM Captain Zin Yaw also said, citing military news sources, that all junta troops inside the Northeast Command ran away and MNDAA and joint forces has cleared the area, adding that all junta forces have left the area but that it cannot be confirmed if they surrendered.
“The current situation is there are no longer junta forces in the area of the Northeast Command. It is confirmed that MNDAA and joint forces have managed to control the area to conduct clearance operation. We can’t say for sure regarding the news of surrender. It is unlikely that they (junta forces) surrendered. They are more likely to have moved to another place and set up defenses. But the whole area of the Northeast Command is now clear of junta forces,” said CDM Captain Zin Yaw.
