YANGON DIVISION – Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM) informed on July 27 that in the Insein Central Prison, 150 prisoners, including political prisoners, suffered diarrhea by food served on the birthday of military leader Min Aung Hlaing.
The PPNM reported that inside the Insein Central Prison, warden Zaw Lin Aung and prison authorities served chicken and bean curry on the birthday of military leader Min Aung Hlain on July 3 and would not even be allowed to eat the food sent from home.
In a statement, they said that they had to eat only food served from prison, despite political prisoners reporting to the prison authorities that the food is rotten.
Thus, the PPNM said that on the same day, other prisoners, including political prisoners in the Insein Central Prison, had to eat the spoilt beans and chickens served from the prison.
The PPNM informed that prisoners who have been eating these curries have been experiencing diarrhea since July 4.
Additionally, five to 10 prisoners were infected until July 20, with at least 150 diarrhea victims, because they haven’t been given treatment.
It’s been reported that the incident was covered by the Insein Prison Authority and pretended that food sent by family members caused diarrhea and restricted care package from family.
Regarding the statement, the political prisoners network Myanmar contacted and has not yet responded.
