RAKHINE STATE – More than 20 policemen, led by the district police chief from Maungdaw, where the Arakha Army (AA) is attacking the city, surrendered to the AA.
According to a military source on the ground, the police officers including the district police chief ( Police Colonial) and the township chief (Police Major) from Maungdaw surrendered on August 6 and are now being detained by the AA.
According to the security of the persons, the names of the defect police were not announced.
The AA has seized several junta council camps in Maungdaw, and the only one left is the No. 5 Border Guard Division (NAK-5) which is continuing to attack military deployments in the city. It is known from some military sources close to AA that the fighting is very intense these days and the military council is attacking back with jet fighters and firing heavy weapons from Sittwe city.
AA reported that the border guard post number 5 camp is the last remaining camp of the junta council’s camp in the Maungdaw area and continues to be attacked.
During the battle, the junta council consisted of Muslim elders, the men, women, and children are being held as human shields and some were suffering from a lack of food and water from the Bohmue (Muslim) village. About 300 people from that village were successfully evacuated to a safe place on August 8th, AA announced.
In order not to lose Maungdaw City, the junta council troops are preparing defensive camps from inside the city and are preparing to launch a defensive campaign. At the same time, AA has surrounded Maungdaw city and is aggressively attacking to capture the entire city of Maungdaw. In addition, the junta council has placed mines in Maungdaw City, and AA has warned the residents to be aware of the dangers of mines.
