SOUTH KOREA – Myanmar nationals whose passports have expired in South Korea can renew their passports at the NUG representative office, which is hosted by the South Korean government’s immigration office and does not need to be renewed at the Military Council Embassy. Myanmar nationals who inquired for renewal at the National Unity Government-NUG representative office in South Korea said that they were granted a 2-year term.
Myanmar nationals who are in South Korea for various reasons do not need to go to the Embassy of the Junta Council to renew their passports when their passports expire. If they go to the NUG representative office and apply for renewal, the NUG representative office will print the stamp and documents necessary for the renewal. The stamps and documents were officially accepted by the South Korean immigration office and the visa was extended.
“The NUG representative office endorsed it. It is accepted by South Korean immigration. It can be extended for 2 years. So far, it works for all those who will continue to live in Korea. It is still not convenient to go outside with that passport. It is also necessary to have a passport. There are also people who have been granted an extension,” explained a Myanmar resident in South Korea who visited the NUG South Korea representative office and inquired.
Some of the Myanmar nationals said it is necessary to know this message by all Myanmar nationals who are participating in the Spring Revolution in South Korea that “there is no need to contact and go to the Junta Council’s Embassy for the extension of expired passports.” They said that they should not pay taxes to the Junta Council Embassy and that they can renew their passports at the NUG representative office without spending money.
Currently, there are hundreds of Myanmar passports that are currently being extended by the NUG South Korea representative office and it will reach several thousand soon.
