MYANMAR – ACLED announced on August 6th that Myanmar ranks second in the world’s most frequent conflicts and third in the number of deaths due to civil war.
This is stated in the bi-annual report of the ACLED group, which monitors armed conflicts in all countries.
In a report released by ACLED in January 2024, Myanmar was ranked 1st in the global conflict index but has now dropped to 2nd, and is leading other countries.
ACLED also stated that Myanmar is the 4th most dangerous country for the lives of civilizations, and it stands 9th in the spreading of conflicts across the country.
It was also stated that 22.8 million people, or 43% of the country’s population, are facing conflicts, mostly people living in Rakhine State, Sagaing Division, and Shan State, according to the ACLED.
ACLED estimates that the number of conflict incidents in Rakhine state will increase by 3 percent in the next 6 months, and the conflict incidents in Mandalay township, which is close to the fighting, will increase by 23 percent.
The continuation of the incidence of conflict is 37 percent and 26 percent in Sagaing and Kachin, respectively, and in northern Shan State, the rate of conflict may decrease to 8 percent in the next 6 months, according to an estimate released by ACLED.
According to ACLED, which analyzed battles in Myanmar, various weapons explosions, and civilian deaths, the most explosions and incidents of political violence occurred from January to June this year.
