MANDALAY DIVISION- The National Unity Government (NUG) announced last Saturday (October 19) that it condemned the attack on the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Mandalay City.
There had been a shooting attack at the Chinese Consulate General on the evening of October 18. NUG expressed its condemnation of the attack on the diplomatic building that is supposed to be protected.
NUG is concerned that this incident would cause ethnic hate conflict and stated that NUG opposes any action that would cause religious conflict.
The military junta regime has (recently) been holding anti-China protests-calling itself a nationalist movement. NUG also warned that military regime forces used to be the culprits behind the China- Myanmar conflict before.
NUG officials also mentioned that if there were differences of opinion, they would try diplomatic consultation and solutions to build friendly relationships with all countries (including neighboring countries) and would always focus on people-to-people cooperation. It is mentioned in the statement that NUG protests and condemns any issues that will affect the image of neighboring countries and cause ethnicity or religious hatred.
