MYANMAR – The Ministry of Human Rights, National Unity Government (NUG) urged to convene an emergency UNSC meeting to take action on the terrorist junta council as the latter has taken steps to carry out death penalties and executions.
The Ministry announced on September 24 that it is a concerning situation as there have been reports of the terrorist junta council arranging to execute democracy activists whom they have unjustly detained, and stated that by carrying out execution closed door without a fair trial, the junta council is aiming to spread fear.
The terrorist junta council had unjustly executed four democracy activists: Mr. Phyo Zayar Thaw, Mr. Jimmy, Mr. Hla Myo Aung and Mr. Aung Thura Zaw on July 23, 2022.
Meanwhile, the UN IIMM stated in its September 23 statement that executing or detaining people without a fair and just trial constitutes a crime against humanity or a war crime.
The NUG has also urged the ASEAN member states, diplomats and the UN to pressure the junta council to stop all executions and to release everyone who are unjustly detained, and the UNSC to convene an emergency meeting and implement the follow-up procedures to UNSC resolution 2669.
The NUG urged to take action on the junta council’s failure to comply with UNSC resolution 2669, to cut off the supply of arms and fuel to the junta council, to refer the junta council to the ICC and to regularly report the Myanmar affairs at the UNSC.
