MYANMAR – Regarding unscrupulous individuals distributing threats and extorting people using the name of the People’s Defence Force (PDF), the National Unity Government (NUG) Ministry of Defence said on September 13 to report such activities.
The Ministry said that those who want to ruin the image of the people’s revolution have been sending letters, voice and video messages, using the name and insignia of PDF battalions, columns and People’s Defence Organisations (PDO) under the NUG Ministry of Defence, to threaten and extort the businesses and civilians.
The Ministry explained that those letters are absolutely not the doing of the PDF battalions and columns or PDOs but are intentionally done by the subordinates of the terrorist junta council to damage the image of the people’s revolution.
The business owners and civilians are also advised to inform the Ministry of Defence at [email protected] or [email protected] when receiving those threats in order to scrutinize whether those threats are by the PDF battalions, columns and PDOs under the NUG MOD.
If it was found that the threats were done by the PDF, PDO or a member, they will be punished according to the military rule of the PDF.
Bo. Mike Khel, the leader of Myingyan Black Tiger (MBT) whose team was used in a similar scheme said that those threats and extortions are done by junta council members, police and Pyu Saw Htee militants to intentionally ruin the image of the revolution and to make the people misunderstand.
“Another thing is opportunists with no abilities of their own who want to take advantage of the people’s fear at a time of poor rule,” he continued.
“There were things like that originally at the bordering townships of Pakokku, Myaing and Yesagyo. But it rarely happens in our township after we leaders summoned them and talked to them. By rarely, I mean there is almost no case. If there’s any case, we summon the leader and punish them,” said Bo. Let Yar, the leader of Myaing Township PDF.
