SOUTHERN SHAN STATE- Local reported that over a hundred acres of corn fields planted by farmers in the South of Pinglaung Township were destroyed by the PNO (Pa’O National Organization; junta affiliated armed force), on August 15 morning.
The PNO destroyed more than a hundred acres of corn fields between the southern Pinglaung Town and the Germani Road.
“They asked us to destroy the cornfields since they are concerned that revolutionary forces would be hiding there. It’s almost time to reap the corn. Many capital investments were made but now everything was at the loss. How could we pay 20 million kyats (they asked for) if we don’t want the area to get bulldozed? I don’t know how to make living in the future,” a corn farmer told the media.
The corn fields were towed with a backhoe, and nearly 200 acres of corn were damaged and more than 30 local corn farmers were reportedly affected.
