YANGON DIVISION- After the Junta regime issued an order to check and prevent the departure of youths abroad, the VIP Service, which is linked to easy departure by bribe, became an easy money source. Airport Duty Immigration staff, police, and other departmental staff there became very wealthy, according to a source from Airport Immigration.
Starting in August, since the junta council restricted young people and women’s departures abroad, a very lucrative VIP Service has emerged at the Yangon Airport. When the VIP service started, they only charged around 10 lakhs per person for an easy exit abroad, but now when the permission to go abroad is particularly strict, the price of the VIP service for one person has risen to 7.5 million kyats. The police and various departments in charge of the airport have become very rich due to the income obtained from this illegal route.
“Even a low-ranked immigration officer at airport duties came to work with a Suzuki Ciaz that more than 10 million kyats just within a few days or months working there. It is the same for the police at the airport,” said the informer from the immigration community.
“Even an ordinary policeman on duty at the airport can ride a Toyota Belta. They also had to bribe to get the job,” the informer continued.
“In order to be on duty at the Yangon Airport, the heads of relevant departments have been bribed starting at least 10 million kyats. The bribe money spent can also be recovered from the airport within a few days. They are rushing to bribe to get a job at the airport.
Most of the people on duty at the Yangon Airport are from the communities associated with the military, and there are also some officials who have been put on duty by bribing.
