MYANMAR – There has been many cases of missing youths aged 18 to 35 in Yangon, some relatives of the missing youths reported.
A delivery man Mr. Kyaw Soe (26) from Thaketa Township didn’t come back home and has been lost since December 14. Mr. Kyaw Soe’s family has moved from Sagaing region to Yangon last year, the mother said.
“My son usually left home at 9 a.m. and returned at around 9 p.m. He did not return on December 14. When I called his phone, it was switched off. I heard that he was being seized to join the military. I still don’t know anything yet,” his mother explained.
Since there is no sufficient members for batch 8 of military service, junta army has been abducting many young men in Yangon Division. In addition, the Yangon Division General Office has issued a notification that healthy young men aged 18 to 35 can be taken to serve in the national defense anywhere and at any time, and that such recruitment is in line with the conscription law. After that statement, there has been abduction and circulating news of missing people.
Mr. Chit Myo Nyi (35) who was returning home from the office at 6 p.m. on December 13 has been lost. His wife, Ei Ei Chaw, wrote on social media that he was contacted by phone at 6:01 p.m. on December 13, but has not been contacted since then and is still missing. She has filed a missing person report at the Dawpon Police Station.
Similarly, Mr. Myat Min Thu (26), of Thazin Flower Road, Ward No. 5/2, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, went missing at 5:30 p.m. on December 15 while buying snack. Family members announce to notify them if he is found.
In addition, the Mandalay Strike Force has issued a warning that the terrorist army has captured 125 young men from 7 townships in Mandalay for military service over a two-week period from December 1 to December 15.
“21 young men from Aung Myay Thar Zan Township, 7 from Chan Aye Thar Zan Township, 5 from Mahar Aung Myay Township, 5 from Chan Mya Thar Zi Township, 36 from Pyi Gyi Tagon Township, 17 from Amarapura Township, and 34 from Patheingyi Township, a total of 125 people, were unjustly taken under the junta council’s conscription law. It was found that several abductions were made at any time of the day or night, and also while checking if there were any guests at night, the Mandalay Strike Force alerted.
Therefore, the Mandalay Strike Force urges the youths of Mandalay to avoid going outside their homes at untimely hours, traveling unnecessarily, and going to parties and events as much as possible. In order to avoid being unjustly capture and conscripted by the terrorist army, it is necessary to constantly monitor the junta council mechanism and activities in the surroundings and avoid any dangerous situations in advance. If there is possibility of being threatened to join army and coerced using family members, preparation to be made for the inevitable situation in advance. Mandalay Strike Force asks to report any cases of arbitrary abduction in their living environment or nearby places.
