MYANMAR – Sources from the junta military and the junta council’s Ministry of Finance in Nay Pyi Taw clarified that the rumours of China loaning 3 billion USD to the junta council are false.
The military source said that the rumours that started following the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Nay Pyi Taw were baseless and added that the Chinese Minister did not discuss financial or economic cooperation matters.
“The visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi focused on heading towards dialogue for peace, and to provide assistance for voter registration, census and immigration matters for the election. No economic, financial matters nor loans were discussed. It was to urge political changes,” said the military source.
The junta Ministry of Finance source also said that there have been no reports of foreign loans received and explained that although the junta ministry has been trying to receive foreign loans since the 2021 military coup, there are no willing creditors due to current situations.
“There have been continued attempts to get loans. But it has not been successful so far,” said the source.
The National Unity Government has also made an announcement that the foreign loans given to the junta council won’t be recognised by the state and won’t be inherited by the succeeding governments.
On the other hand, junta lobbyist channels on Telegram have been constantly spreading false news that the three billion USD loan from China have pulled down the exchange rates and that the exchange rates will fall to the lowest level in the future.
