KARENNI STATE- The Htipawlar High School within an IDP camp in Phruso Township reduces its school hours since the end of April due to poor classroom conditions to resist the extreme heat.
The students have only temporary classrooms under rainproof tents and could not concentrate well during the noon when the heat is extreme. So, the other IDP schools including those in Phruso township
changes its school hours.
They used to have morning classes and afternoon classes but since the end of April only class (from 8 a.m. to noon) continues. Due to a deduction in school hours, some classes reportedly could not follow the study plan.
The Htipawlar High School only opened in late 2022 so they have half year until the end school year and the school year would continue up to July. Currently, there are 14 teachers and more than 300 students at the Htipawlar School.
Due to the reduction in school hours and not sufficient rainproof shelters (other than temporary tents), assistants (for the shelter) are needed before the rainy season comes, said one of the teachers.
There were times when the Htipawler School have to close down for various seasons (due to ongoing clashes, poor weather, etc.)
