MYANMAR – Due to the junta airstrikes targeting civilians, schools at the border of Karenni State and Shan State were forced to close.
People have been anxious as the junta council has been continuously targeting civilians with airstrikes, causing the schools to close.
“Now, because of the danger of airstrikes, it’s not possible to reopen (the schools). Everyone gets terrified once they hear planes coming. The children cannot be gathered. So schools are closed. How long they will be closed depends on the situation,” said Ponekan Nwe, a teacher in Karenni State.
The displaced children are attending school despite the difficulties and continuing their studies as the schools close and reopen based on junta airstrikes.
“Before, we would run away halfway during class when the planes come. Now, the school is closed as the arrival of the planes is traumatic,” said a high school student.
Recently on September 5, junta air force bombed Bangkok IDP camp where a large number of displaced people were staying, killing nine people including a two years old child, students and women.
