KACHIN STATE – Kachin Independence Army (KIA) frontline sources reported that there are still seven main junta bases left for Hpakant, the city of jade, to be completely captured and rid of the junta council but that the KIA has control of majority of the territory.
In recent days, KIA captured the junta council’s Tawmhaw and Lamaung camps in Hpakant Township, completely capturing the latter on August 15 around 9:30 a.m. and the former around 4:40 p.m. Seven more junta forces remain to be captured before the entire Hpakant Township is captured but KIA is said to have achieved majority control in the township.
The seven junta camps still remains v in Hpakant, home to some of the most precious jade on earth, are Kansie Strategic Base, Aungbarlay Camp, Mazupyanhtaung Camp, Lalpyin Yanchak, Saitaung hill police station, Hpakant Strategic Base and Hpakant Police Station.
KIA spokesperson Colonel Naw Bu said that “there are still many junta bases remaining regarding territory control. They have set up strong defenses and proper bases. The police stations are also strongly defended. I can’t comment on the military situation.”
KIA launched an attack on junta bases in Kachin State starting March 7 and has captured over 100 junta bases so far.
