TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Residents reported that there were simultaneous battles at Sinsate and Eainshaytpyin Wards of northern Dawei and Maungmagan Village of Launglon Township between the revolutionary forces and the terrorist junta council.
Fierce fighting took place in Sinsate and Eainshaytpyin Wards starting around 5 p.m. on August 17 where both small and heavy weapons were used.
It is said that the revolutionary forces launched attacks on the junta forces in those wards leading to fierce battles and the residents added that there could have been casualties.
“The fighting was pretty serious. Around 20 rounds of heavy weapons were fired. It was really loud. We also heard that they are firing from the airfield towards Sinsate as well,” said a resident of Dawei.
A witness reported that the junta council also sent continuous reinforcements of junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee militants in cars that evening.
The fighting reportedly calmed down after 7 p.m.
Residents of Sinsate and Eainshaytpyin Wards were reported to have fled in a hurry due to the battle.
At the same time, fierce fighting broke out at Maungmagan Village in Launglon Township. Locals reported that the revolutionary forces attacked Maungmagan Police Station starting around 4 p.m. on August 17, leading to fierce fighting. But the battle reportedly quieted down around 6 p.m.
The exact details of the battles in Dawei and Maungmagan and the casualty report from the battles are not yet known.
Residents said that junta cars were speeding all over Dawei during the night of the battle.
