BANGKOK – Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has called for the immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who is most important for national reconciliation in Myanmar.
Today, Singapore’s Foreign Minister made the request at an informal meeting in Thailand on Myanmar issues held in Bangkok, according to his social network.
In today’s informal meeting, the attendees reaffirmed that Myanmar Junta must commit to follow the 5 ASEAN Common Agreements, to immediately stop the violence, especially against civilians. There is necessity for constructive dialogue among all stakeholders to reach a peaceful and long lasting solution. It is learned that Singapore’s Foreign Minister requested the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi as soon as possible, which is the most important thing for national reconciliation and peace in Myanmar.

ASEAN supported the meeting involving all stakeholders for Myanmar affairs that is sponsored by ASEAN. Singapore’s foreign minister expressed his hope to cooperate with Malaysia, which will be the next ASEAN chairman, on important processes, including this matter.
