TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Six junta soldiers, including five fresh recruits, brought along their weapons and entered the legal fold in Yebyu Township, Dawei District, reported an official from Dawna Column.
Junta private Wai Phyo from the navy and privates Phyo Min Aung, Karen Lay and Ye Min Maung, fresh recruits who were drafted during the second batch of conscription and privates Than Toe Aung and Phyu Phwe who were drafted during the first batch, all of whom were sent to the frontline in Yebyu Township, reportedly surrendered to the revolutionary forces, bringing along one MA1 rifle, three cartridges and 161 5.56mm bullets.
“It has been several days. They contacted our teams and surrendered. The one that brought the weapon was the private from the navy. For now, they are treated well according to human rights standards. They were taught propaganda that they would be killed if they reached out to the PDF, the revolutionary forces. We have explained to them that is not the case and are taking care of them,” said the official from Dawna Column.
The junta soldiers that entered the legal fold were deployed to the frontline at the territory of Dawna Column under Strategy 33, Southern Division Military Sub-Region 3 of the People’s Defence Force. Dawna Column has urged the junta forces who wish to switch to the side of the people including those who were forcibly conscripted to contact and surrender to the PDF Dawna Column and allied forces or the nearest revolutionary forces.
