MYANMAR – A business executive from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, UMFCCI, said that it has been submitted to the Junta Council to allow the establishment of VPN Service Providers for Online Live Sale and Facebook-based businesses in Myanmar.
The junta council is drafting a cyber security bill that would not allow VPNs to bypass the Junta Council’s ban on social networking sites such as Facebook. Therefore, UMFCCI has requested to allow the establishment of officially registered VPN Service Providers so that businesses can continue to use the social network, and 30 points have been reviewed regarding the preparation of the Cyber Security Bill.
If UMFCCI’s request is successful, private VPNs must be established and officially registered with the Junta Council. In addition, officially registered VPNs will also be available for sale to the public. Online trading businesses based on the Facebook social network will continue to operate.
It is learned that since May 30th, the Terrorist War Council has started blocking all VPNs using Chinese technology in order to block the use of Facebook in Myanmar.
