SAGAING DIVISION – All Burma Students Democratic Front (ABSDF) Column 3 Battalion 14 stated that they captured timber smugglers stealing timber from a timber plantation in Pale Township on July 27.
Battalion Commander Zay Ya of Battalion 14, ABSDF Column 3 said that they caught the smugglers red-handed during a patrol then chased and captured them.
It is said that three smugglers, two cattle and nearly a ton of teak were captured and that there were smugglers that managed to run away. The captured smugglers and the confiscated items were said to have been handed over to Pale Township People’s Administration Body (PAB) and People’s Defence Force (PDF).
The National Unity Government informed its Township PAB and PDF to prevent timber smuggling in the region on January 13, 2013. According to the defence forces, the smuggling of timber worsened in Pale Township starting early 2024.
