WA STATE- According to a Thai news agency, it was reported that the Royal Thai military has ordered the withdrawal of UWSA (United Wa State Army) troops from 8 camps in the disputed border area in Mae Hong Son (West Thailand) and Myanmar by December 18. Moreover, the Thai Army has been conducting military evacuations.
The Thai Ministry of Defense has also instructed the Thai Army to carry out military operations to protect Thailand’s territory, according to the news report. The UWSA replied that they would respond to the withdrawal request after informing and discussing it with their headquarters.
While the Thai military is first working to resolve the situation through negotiation, it is also prepared for an emergency situation, as mentioned in the news. These areas were occupied by the MTA led by Khunsa before 1995 and were later attacked and occupied by the UWSA.
