MYANMAR – The Edward Barsky Award, given to those whose works in the healthcare sector are in accordance with human rights and social justice, was awarded to Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, the Union Minister of Health of the National Unity Government of Myanmar.
He was awarded as he had provided health care services to civilians despite the atrocious junta army’s violent actions and oppressions against the civilians in Myanmar.
The Edward Barsky Award selection committee announced that the Ministry of Health, the National Unity Government of Myanmar had provided emergency medicines, protected the healthcare staffs and provided healthcare services to Myanmar civilians although the members of the atrocious junta council is violently attacking the healthcare services and the healthcare workers who joined the civil disobedience movement.
It was mentioned in the announcement that the healthcare workers from the Ministry of Health, the National Unity Government of Myanmar have persevered to keep providing healthcare services to the civilians, which is the like a torche of hope shining towards the country’s peace, stability and justice.
The award is a historic prestigious long term award which has previously awarded the organisations like the African National Congress led by Nelson Mandela who worked to promote healthcare services and justice.
Moreover, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, the Union Minister of Health of the National Unity Government of Myanmar has also been invited to attend the annual banquet of healthcare activists organised by the healthcare leaders, healthcare workers, activists and professionals around the world.
