MAGWAY DIVISION- Aung Lang Township People’s Defense Force reported that three men were beaten and arrested by military council soldiers last Sunday (November 17) at the intersection of Nyaunggai and Ingyi Village Road, Aung Lang Township.
The detainees were 34-year-old Mr. Aung Thu and 19-year-old Mr. Aung Kaung Htet from Aung Lang Township and 20-year-old Mr. Win Ko Lay from Nhawsann Village.
At noon on November 17, when the victims were walking from a village in the east of Aung Lang Town, along the Nyaunggai-Dapala-Aung Lang Road, they were arrested when they met the military forces on motorcycles.
“Junta troops frequently used the Talokepin Camp on that road. The victims met the junta troops and were shot by rifles. The victims could not run away and got arrested. Yesterday, the victims were beaten up at the scene of the incident. One of them even had blood coming out of his ears and nose,” said an official of Aung Lang People Administrative Force.
“Three of the victims were initially known to be detained and interrogated at the Dapala village police station and the subsequent situation is unknown,” the above official added.
On the night of September 3, twelve men under the age of 50 were arrested from a traveling bus (from Pyay to Aung Lang) at the Bootkyi military council checkpoint on the Aung Lang-Pyay Road.
Since the military coup (February 1, 2021) to November 14, 2024, a total of 27,676 people have been arrested, of which 21,122 are still in detention, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners- AAPP.
