MANDALAY DIVISION – According to the local residents, the coup council has evicted around 20 households who lived in Mandalay downtown, by using a large amount of forces under the accusation that they (the civilians) were the squatters.
At around 10:30 a.m. on November 19, a patrol wagon carrying a large amount of junta council servants came to Aung Nan Yeik Thar (West) which is located between 85th street, 32th and 33th street, and set blockages to the ward, in Chan Aye Thar San township, Mandalay division.
Local residents informed that they forced a total of 20 households who lived in one of the lanes in that ward, to leave under the accusation that they were squatting.
A local civilian who requested not to be named mentioned that “they used to seize and bulldoze the civilian lands under the reasons that those lands are religious places, government owned places and state-owned places. Around 20 households were resting in the place where the coup council has seized. It was known that the junta council has planned to build a condo at the seized place.”
The detailed number of the houses which were forced to move out is not yet known.
It was known that the junta council blocked that road section until the afternoon. Due to the junta council servants, the civilians were frightened.
In 2023, the coup council forcibly removed the numerous civilian houses, in Pathein Gyi and Pyi Gyi Tagon townships, Mandalay division.
