KAREN STATE – On July 24, the National Unity Government sent a message of condolence for the death of former Karen National Union (KNU) Vice President Naw Zipporah Sein.
Padoh Naw Zipporah Sein passed away at the age of 69 on July 24 at 2:21 in the afternoon at her home in the town of Mae Saliang on the Thai-Myanmar border. The National Unity Government stated in the message that the death of Naw Zipporah Sein means the loss of a valuable leader not only for the Karen ethnic group but also for the whole of Myanmar.
Naw Zipporah Sein was one of the first leaders to declare that the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) was null and void after the terrorist group seized power on February 1, 2021. She also stated that she will support the National Unity Government from all sides.
The National Unity Government also stated in the message that it respects and acknowledges the efforts of Naw Zipporah Sein against the military dictatorship and the efforts she contributed for the federal democratic system.
Naw Zipporah Sein was the leader of Karen National Union (KNU), the Karen Women’s Organization (KWO) and was awarded the Women’s Peace Award by the Women’s Organizations Network (WON).
