YANGON DIVISION – The terrorist junta army has forced the private universities in Yangon to stop being called universities, according to the education community.
All famous private universities in Yangon have been forced not to use the term University. They asked to change the name to “College” instead of “University”. They have been forced to remove the term “University” without a solid reason.
The junta-controlled Ministry of Education issued an order announcement on July 26, stating that more than 40 private universities have been downgraded to college status with the comment, “Universities are allowed to run at the college level as they do not meet the University Standards. Universities should change their names and reopen.”
After the military council sent the order, private university owners, Staff and faculty said they could not understand and did not know why to drop the university term.
