SHAN STATE – In TNLA (Ta’ang National Liberation Army) controlled Kyaukme Township, northern Shan State, TNLA is reported to have arrested drug dealers and detained 320 drug addicts and opened a rehab centre for them.
After TNLA captured Kyaukme Township in August, 320 people who became addicted to drugs under the junta regime were detained and sent to the rehab centre opened by the law enforcement team (anti-drugs department) of the PSLF/TNLA for rehabilitation.
During the rule of junta council, Kyaukme Township had many drug dealers and users as the sale and use of drugs was permitted by the junta regime. After capturing the township during the second part of Operation 1027, TNLA seized the dealers and users, capturing up to 320 people. They were then sent to rehab and made to undergo rehabilitation for six months while the dealers were prosecuted according to anti-drugs laws.
It is said that Kyaukme has become a drug free zone and TNLA is implementing five programs: regional peace and stability; rule of law; public service; anti-drugs activities; and public safety.
