THAILAND – A chemical tank exploded at a factory in Kabin Buri District, Prachin Buri Province in Thailand and, killing two Myanmar workers and injuring 12 people, reported Myanmar workers at the factory.
The explosion happened at 9:15 a.m. on October 26 and it is said that the two Myanmar workers fell into the tank due to the explosion. One of them was recovered from the tank dead while the other passed away on the way to the hospital.
“We have to fill the tank with powder and mix it. The two that fell into the tank had to climb the tank, lift the bags with cranes and empty them. There was a similar explosion before but the explosion was small so it didn’t make the news. The explosion was loud and the rising smoke was pretty huge,” said a factory worker who was injured during the first explosion and was involved in rescuing the two workers during the second explosion.
The two deceased victims are said to be Mr. Min Aung and Mr. Thet Wai and the injured reportedly include one Wa ethnic person working as a Chinese interpreter and eleven Myanmar workers.
The deceased as well as the injured workers were said to be MOU workers sent by Aung Pyae Company and the workers reported that they did not receive any compensation for the first accident and are not clear if there will be any for this accident either.
