TANINTHARYI DIVISION – A military vehicle leaving Kanpauk in Yebyu Township was blasted with mines around 6 a.m. on Wednesday (May 31), reported residents and local defence force members.
More than ten junta soldiers were estimated to have been on board said vehicle which was attacked near Pyaungpote Hill located between Kanpauk and Kalainaung Town.
“(The vehicle) most likely left from the junta navy force. It’s not exactly clear where it came from,” said a Kanpauk resident who is of the opinion that said junta vehicle came to patrol around the area of Kanpauk and Kalainaung Town.
Following attacks on Kalainaung based junta light infantry battalions 409 and 410 two days ago, it is said that junta troops have been patrolling the town in two to three vehicles up to three times a day.
After the reported mine attack on the junta vehicle, a larger vehicle reportedly arrived at the scene and picked up the injured junta troops.
It is not yet known which group carried out said mine attack.
There are four junta battalions as well as Mawrawaddy Navy Base in the area of Kanpauk and Kalainaung Town and it is said that every time an attack on junta troops occurs in the region, junta forces would conduct patrol in large numbers, beat up and abduct civilians, recklessly shell the region and launch offensives.
